Default AVN in nutter name game

The Australian newspaper reports that the Australian Vaccination Network is having difficulty finding a non-misleading name for itself. Apparently, an attempt to reserve the name Australian Vaccination - Sceptics Network has been knocked back by the ASIC.

As an AVN opponent pointed out: "We object to them using any variation of the term because sceptics gather evidence to make an informed choice. The AVN does nothing of the sort."

They have until next month to make a decision.

Sorry, I'm unsure what this post is in debate of? Are you just posting it so that bubhub can have another free for all at the non vaccinators?

The AVN are not just any old bunch of conspiracy theory whackos, their misinformation and lies represent a real danger to the health of Australian children.

And for that reason I think you'll find there are a not insignificant number of BH members interested in this ongoing saga.

I want to know, honestly, why they don't just use 'Australian anti-vaccination network'? It's truthful.. what are they so afraid of by not having that as their name?

And besides, they're not skeptics, skeptics actually take in credible information :eyeroll: so I'm glad that name was denied.

I honestly don't understand why anti-vax groups want to hide behind misleading names. The AVN is one, there is also the National Vaccine Information Center. I'm sure there are others. Why not be transparent? Why not just acknowledge that you are an anti vaccine group? Surely it's anti-vax people you are looking to attract? The way I see it is they are using these names to appear legitimate in an effort to bring people over to their way of thinking. And that's just misleading. I'm glad they must change their name. @headoverfeet I may be wrong but I don't think that many non-vaxxers on the hub subscribe to the views of the AVN (Vaccines cause SIDS, lets ask the family of dead children about their vax status, vaccinating is like r@pe etc)

I don't get it either, it is after all, the absolute truth. Their catch line is "Because there are two sides to every story", which for them there really isn't. As far as AVN is concerned vaccines are plain evil. So why don't they just name themselves after their own truth?

I agree, they'll still have their followers (read: income) so what are they so scared of?

They're also ridiculously good at silencing anyone on their fb page that asks questions. I go & read the SAVN page when I start to lose faith in humanity, and the amount of people on there that have been banned from the AVN page for posting links that prove the efficacy of vaccines is unbelievable. But ya know "two sides to every story"

I was banned. And I didn't even say anything about vaccines, I asked a question about a statement they made relating to gun control in the US. They engaged for a while, but once I posted a peer reviewed study blowing MD's theory out of the water - I was out of there!
