I have been with DH for 5 years almost, he joined the army when he was 17 and is now 23.
I find that they he is not very self slufficient in the household. He is almost selfish. I think the army has minipulated the person he is cause he joined so young.
He is great though about not going out with his mates and that type thing as I have heard is quite common in the forces.

As for ironing the uniform...thankfully I am a terrible ironer and he does it himself as he is fussy...actually another point...they are a little vain too!!!

As for the rude comments to you, thats not the forces, that just him being a jack ar*e!

My DH was in the army for 10 years, and I must say that he was really good to live with, he did his own ironing, packed his own pack when going away, actually anything to do with the army he did himself, and he was good with family stuff, If i wanted to go somewhere he would come, but on the odd ocasion he would mumble and groan, actually he still does it now so no change there,

what he says to you is not because of the army, I think he's just being a **** head, you don't deserve that, maybe have another good talk to him, has he always been like this?

I think the Army has alot to answer for as far as attitudes go, although your DP has gone to the extreme - I dont think alot of that is Army related, just pig related.

My DF is quite lazy at home. I always have to ask to get him to do anything, even the obvious stuff. I put it down to taking orders all day at work, he doesnt want to do it when he comes home.... although, that happens in all jobs, not just the Defence Force.

I've never ironed his uniform - sorry, i did once when he a bird pooped on his polys during the ANZAC day dawn service, but apart from that he does everything work related. He is going way too far expecting you to pack his pack for him - thats just silly.

It can be very isolating being part of the Defence Force. You need to speak to other Defence wives (such as here) for a bit of support.

    Good Luck

My DH has been in the Army for 18 years and I am counting down the days until he hits 20yrs and gets a pension!

He lived by himself before he met me and if he complains I always remind him that he can go and get a room in the lines if he wants to. He hated that.

He is on duty right now, running around in his polys in 36 d heat and I just laugh. I just dont understand why they have to wear a certain badge in a certain place. DH gets out the ruler to measure!

After an ironing episode where I put "railway tracks" in his cams, I can not be trusted to iron again. Perhaps you can try this?

When DH is an idiot I tell him that I agreed to be an army wife, not a soldier. If he wants to boss around people at work go ahead, but in my eyes, I OUTRANK him at home, so he had better fall into line. He's a softie most of the time and actually listens.

I hope things improve for you, and I am sorry that your friend is leaving, but it is posting time and a whole new bunch of women should be arriving soon.

Haha! I can't help but giggle at ur comments. My fiance has been in the army for 6years and I mastered the skill of stuffing up his cams while trying to iron them. That way he would never ask me to do them again! It's worked!

He is very good and tidy around the house - everything has its place. My only criticsm is his zoning out when he gets home from work and the odd occassion when he speaks to me like one of his lids. The other critiscm is teh army's hypocritical outlook on the 'importance of family'.
