Usually start compiling a list in October/November & then shopping in November/December. I try & do 90% of it online, I dislike crowds & Christmas time at shopping centers is just way to stressful so try & avoid going.

I write a list for each child as I also have to buy on behalf of extended family. I try to stick to it, although allow for specials on the day and always keep a couple of alternative ideas for each child just in case.
I organise one day child free in the week before Christmas to hit the shops 9am-5pm including a nice lunch stop in the middle.
I save $30 a week all year so I can can feel rich and splurge without worry. (That money also covers food and treats for the week and any days out/activities we want to do so not just toys)
