Default Anyone else see something wrong with this?

So I'm quite surprised, I bought a cot 2n hand and when I got it, I noticed the mattress still had the original plastic cover on it and not used, so I queried it with seller and asked if it had ever been used.

I was then told she used it with the plastic wrapping on it and just put a fitted sheet over it..

Wouldn't that be really dangerous for suffocation??

Unless the child takes off the mattress cover and undoes the plastic cover?

Its a huge SIDS risk and my mattress had a sticker on it to remind you to take it off. Face down suffocation I imagine. Even proper 'safe' waterproof mattress protectors are now breatheable and made from wicking material instead of plastic or rubber backed.

But lucky you for getting what's pretty much a brand new mattress!

I would definitely not be leaving the plastic on, also wouldn't that be uncomfortable to sleep on even with a sheet over?

Yeah that's what I thought! SIDS! I would never use it with the plastic on, ever! Was so surprised.

Her reason to me was that she knew she was going to sell it afterwards...

No that's definitely not safe, I'm pretty sure it specifically says it in the revised SIDS guidelines

Sounds like her child is fine and you got a brand new mattress! Everybody's a winner! I'd take the plastic cover off if I was you, though.

That's terrible. I was thinking its cos she wanted an inbuilt waterproof cover in case the baby wet through the bed!!
