Retailers are under no legal obligation to offer you a store credit for an unwanted gift or change of mind purchase, even if you have a receipt.

I know this but Target seem to be the only ones on the planet that don't hence my frustration and while it comes under change-of-mind umbrella technically it's not. I just don't think he needs three of the same toy.

Yeah I was thinking the same.

Sorry but I don't think you should get a refund with no receipt. And I think to awful if people "return" something to a store it wasn't purchase from.

If you can't return, re-gift it, sell on eBay or Gumtree or suck it up.

Just to be clear, my earlier comment was tongue in cheek. It is only store goodwill which allows returns without receipt. I'm almost certain OP that a word with the manager would give you a credit note, assuming the product is in original condition.

Maybe you could put the unwanted ones under the wishing tree or give to the salvos.

What a great suggestion! I'm sure they would kill to have 2 or 3 of the same toy. Especially since you said that your son got so many presents you have no idea who got him what?

Married to my soul mate, Mummy to one beautiful little girl, wishing for a little boy to complete our family.

Pretty sure it's legal for them to require a receipt and return within a certain time frame.

Although I returned something to big w the other day without a receipt & they gave me a refund.

Im going against the grain here & will say I don't see a problem with the polices to be honest. Most shops are like that anyway!

But why should a business be expected to give you a store credit because your friends all bought the same toy?

Either suck it up and keep all 3, sell 2 on Facebook/gumtree/eBay or wrap them up and donate them to the wishing tree.
