They have changed their policy to one month only.

I heard they changed it too. Very surprising for a company as big as them

So annoying, and possibly illegal- check consumer affairs website in your state! I chuck all my receipts into a box now, and for big stuff (over $100 or things that have a 1+ year warranty) I scan and electronically file.

I was behind a woman at target a couple of weeks back who was having trouble with a very rude customer service person about a return, so I suggested it would be a good idea for her to contact a higher up manager and consumer affairs.

Yep this happened to me with a faulty nappy bag. Because it wasn't 'target' brand they wouldn't let me return or exchange for a new one. Even though no where else sells them at all.

I suggest you download the ACCC Shopper ap. it's very useful in these situations and clearly outlines your rights within consumer law

DS got 3 toys that he already had for his birthday so we tried to exchange them. Target, kmart, big w and toysrus all said they don't exchange without a receipt anymore

    Woolworths doesn't either.

you should be able to return for a gift card not cash without a receipt though.

majority of stores have no change of mind policies anyway.

dont have a problem with it.

Legislastion changed about 12 months or more ago and they are breaking the law. You do not require proof of purchase to return an item for a refund.

Yes it sucks because some people may steal things and then return them but that's the law.

I would google it and print it out and take it in with me to return the items.

I had the same thing happen at bigW a few months ago. I checked their website and yup, their policy is now receipt required for non-bigW branded stuff. The most annoying thing was one item was a DVD and they told me that it can't be from there because their checkout staff put a sticker onto all DVDs sold - I went through self serve! Such a flawed policy.

I always thought you needed a receipt.

If you received a gift you wanted to exchange would you ask the person where they bought it? Otherwise you could be asking for a refund from Target even though it was bought at K-Mart (for example)? I must be missing something because I don't think you should be able to do that at all!!
