Utterly ridiculous. How sad that we are so backwards for a supposedly 'developed' nation.

Just when I think the country is moving forward on this, it's one step forward two steps back. Interesting the country doesn't have the money to support the most needy families in helping with school costs but we can pay to fight against basic human rights in the high court

Rudd had a plan to move towards gay marriage in 150 days. I urge those that support this cause and voted for Abbott to rethink their vote in the next election.

It's the marriage act that you need to get changed, the High Court had no choice but to overturn it and the ACT knew that all along. Anyone who doesn't get that is being played for a fool.

I think the ACT has done this to bring the issue right to the fore rather than because they actually thought they could legalise same sex marriage,

Agree it makes me sad that this was over turned but the high court really had no choice

Am I right in thinking that it was the Federal Government that took it to the High Court?

I understand the high courts hands are tied but it should never have gotten to this. Absolutley disgraceful that this hasn't already been fixed at the federal level.

I wish I was a federal liberal mp just so when it came time to vote and Abbot denied a conscious vote, I could cross the floor while at the same time flipping Abbot the bird. It's time for Liberal MP's to get some balls and stand up against this. If enough people do it, Abbot won't be able to sack them.

Feels like the freakin' dark ages. Seriously.

Change the marriage act - the world won't end, I promise!!!
