Default Toilet training- how and when did you do it?

It has been a long time since I've had to think about this topic (DS is almost 14, DD is 16 months) and just need a refresh!
Please share your experiences- what age did you start? I hated using a potty for DS so after a couple of weeks we got rid if it and bought a baby toilet seat that sat on our regular toilet and he went straight to using that. Is that the standard these days? I hate portable potties!
DD tells me when she has done a poo so I'm guessing this is a good sign that she is nearly ready to start training.
    Thanks.

Default Toilet training- how and when did you do it?

I got the three day potty training book and ds is pretty much wee trained but doesn't like doing poos on the toilet. So he usually does them in his jocks :-/ he will get there though. He is 2 yrs 1 month and we started the weekend after his birthday. He'd been doing wees on the toilet for a few months just occasionally because he wanted to.

Any other tips? Would like to hear more stories... How long did it take? Was your bub scared at first? Yes or no to potty or straight to regular toilet with a toddler seat added?

My daughter was 2, she never had a potty just sat on the normal toilet from the start (holding on for dear life lol) Honestly besides reminding/asking DD if she needed to go to the toilet every hour or so I didn't really do a great deal towards training her! She was just ready and picked it up herself in a matter of weeks.
