Did it really take two hours to read? I just don't have that kind of time...I really want to read it though!

Good on you for reading it... I don't think I will be able to. Did it explain why the judge wasn't able to give him a longer sentence?

It'd be quite easy to skim through. It just became really engrossing. It got quite technical towards the end, so I spent a fair bit of time reading and rereading. I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to reading judges statements, though, so for me it was time well spent :-)

I think some of the reasons included:
    - the crime was considered 'mid-range'
    - the prosecution didn't ask for a life sentence (they suggested 20 years)
    - 20 years is the standard sentence for murder in NSW
    - It was not premeditated, in the sense that he only formed the intent to kill a couple of minutes before doing it.

Justice McCallum said that jailing Gittany for life would be excessive, but added that he had no prospects of rehabilitation.

Edited to Add: The sentencing is now available online if anyone's interested: http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/cases/n...C/2014/49.html

I missed it too. But you could probably watch it on their website. That woman is vile, I'm not exactly sorry I missed it. I saw enough of her last time. What a pathetic excuse for a human being she is.

I watched it. Reason se wasn't at the sentencing is because the cameras were catching her reaction. She didn't even flinch!!

I watched it, the reason she wasn't at his sentencing was she was sitting at home with cameras trained on her to catch her 'reaction' to his jail term I had to laugh.

I read this morning she is giving him 5 years ( to do what exactly wasn't elaborated but perhaps slowly dig his way out of prison with a spoon or something) and then she was going to move on with her life lol

The whole interview felt like a farce, what some people won't do for their 15 mins of fame.

    Shame shame shame !
