Every time I see this thread Willow Rosenberg pops into my head "Not everybody worships Santa!!"

Tbh I think you should have stopped your DS singing it as soon as he started, it's one thing to not 'do' Santa, but you don't need to spoil it for anyone else. Kinda like how we are atheists but I would never let DS sing about God not being real in public. It's just disrespectful of other people's beliefs. I'm not saying Santa is as important as a deity, but the dude is a big deal for a lot of kids.
    Absolutely this!

My son has been a bit suspicious about santa for a while, but he's sort of in that stage where realises it doesn't quite make sense but he sort of still believes, or at least fakes it to get gifts.

I'm a staunch atheist and very pragmatic, but I think the santa thing is a bit of magic for young kids, and fairly harmless.

Although, interestingly, my partner and his siblings were told there was no santa. SIL (37) is still upset that she missed out on santa. But her mum (the santa ruiner) is still upset that her parents lied to her about santa's existence.

I'm pretty sure you can't win at parenting, lol.

It's not eavesdropping if someone blows their trumpet within reasonable earshot of other people.

Er yeah, and it was a 5 year old singing a song. Big deal.

Seriously though, is it ok to talk about God in public? It isn't ok to talk about santa not existing (a fictional character), it isn't ok to talk about God not existing. Is it ok for religious people to talk about God in public?

Yes but it's darn rude for a stranger to then butt into that conversation...

The staff member had no right to tell your son off.
