I agree with you, I am atheist and have no problem overhearing people talking about god, event though I don't believe it myself. And as you said before, if you believe in something, it shouldn't matter what anyone else says about it, especially not a 5 year old.

The staff member was the rude one hands down. Your boy was only trying to comfort his brother. And if passing kids happened to hear the parents could just tell them that your child has chosen not to believe in santa but "we know he is real." Kids are going to believe their parents over anyone else. I really don't think he would've done irreparable damage to a child's belief. The staff member had no right.

So interesting that people who don't let their kids believe in Santa and despise religion actually celebrate christmas!

Having freedom of speech does NOT mean it is appropriate to say whatever you want whenever you want it! Seriously. How many times do we bite our tongues or say something differently to how we do in our heads... All the time!

It's called politeness. I don't believe in lots of things but I don't go around vocalizing it. I don't see that as a violation of my right to freedom of speech for goodness sake.
I was going to make a similar comment earlier but got distracted. If it was an adult who said santa isnt real and was overheard by a young child, would that be ok? Or is it only ok because it was a child?

(Anewme I am Not talking about your son here because I know he didnt do this, so please dont feel I am referring to the OP, just a gerneral comment).

The freedom of speech thing irritates me at times. Yes we are free to say what we please but do we not teach our children to be polite and courteous of others? My 3yr old is quite blunt and has been knowb to comment and say "wow mummy, that lady has a big bottom" or "why is that mans skin dark brown mummy?" Sure he is free to say it, but I am teaching hin to be polite and refrain from saying it.

One could also say that it is rude to eavesdrop on other peoples conversations. A 5 year old singing to his sibling, that is between the two of them.

I agree, but as I said in my post, I wasnt referring to the OP, but to the people commenting about freedom of speech.

I know, but others have said similar things, I wasn't aiming it at you, just pondering.

Cannot believe how full on some people are about Santa, it's like a religion itself!
