    Ah - thanks moongazer - I've always wondered if baking paper would work as I find it easier with other baking recipes - I do wonder why they said foil!

    I remember boiling the condensed milk in the can as a teenager for caramel tarts - I think it takes about 4 hours - but you have to make sure that the pot doesn't boil dry - lots of top-ups. Take wrapper off first

    just an update didn't end up having time to make for thanksgiving but made it for christmas and it was delicious was such a hit with the Americans !
