In SA the Women's and Children's hospital accepts donations of books, toys, DVDs, craft supplies etc. They have a list of donations needed here: http://www.wch.sa.gov.au/support/donations/
Also they are collecting DVD's for the Royal Adelaide Hospital. They are added to the DVD library on the Orthopaedic ward for patients who face a lengthy stay: Their brochure is here: http://www.mrasa.asn.au/pdf/4BsDVD.pdf
Great idea for a thread OP and some great charities mentioned I donated all of my old maternity clothes to the Caroline Chisholm society and baby clothes once my kids grew out of them - it's a great organisation.
