    Hi Ladies

Welcome Rachel there is a wealth of knowledge here on SA but like Em said most seem to go to CFC (cape fertility Clinic) in Cape Town.
We are about to go over in March and our dealings with them so far have been very professional. The only frustrating thing sometimes is the time difference ....

As far as timing goes the 'official ' line Is 12 days. So for us we have to be in Cape Town for our first appointment on 24th March, EPU is likely to be the 26th. ET likely to be 31st and fly out day the 4th.
(To all the other ladies , yay! We finally got our treatment plan exactly a week after all the testing)
You basically fly out before you POAS or BT so yes if you do get a bFN it means another trip.

Lily : Big hugs to you , that is something I worry about too. I hope the search for a new donor isn't too drawn out.

My heart - I would be going with your gut feeling....

Em: good luck for your donor's testing today. Fx.

As for us , we are all systems go .. I have started my meds. The donor has picked up hers, flights are booked, accommodation paid for and now our time can be spent fussing over the fun things like shark dives and safaris

Sorry I forgot to ask: we were thinking of bringing a small gift for our donor, to be left for her at the clinic.
To those who have done this before. Is this acceptable? Is it the norm?

Hi Rachel - welcome, you will find heaps of information to help you on this thread. Most people are headed to Cape Town Fertility. I think Emski summed it up pretty much. You will find everyone at CFC really helpful. Good luck.

Myheart - sorry no advise from me. I've never had so many eggs so never had this issue . I'm sure you'll find help on here for sure.

Blinky - so excited for you. All systems go. Looking forward to following your journey . Good question about the gift. I've been thinking about what we should give as well. I will be reading all the suggestions too.

AFM - well..... Thanks very much for the support girls, I really appreciate it. At the moment my head is spinning. Where last time I spent weeks trying to decide I feel like I need to do it quickly this time as we really need to keep our dates give or take a few weeks if we can. My donor was through EDSA but I am looking through the other agencies as well. I have heard back from Rikki at Sunshine (she seems lovely and quick to reply). She has provided me with information and someone she thinks is suitable and asked me to write a letter to her. I am waiting for EDSA and Nurture to get back to me now. Anyway think positive now, we were 9 weeks out so I'm lucky it wasn't closer. Any advise would be appreciated.

Hey Helen just wanted to let you know that I didn't bleed after the loss so must have been absorbed and rapidly. It isn't necessary that surviving twin will come to harm. So try and relax (I know easier said then done ) and think positive. I did take it easy though the following weeks just tried to keep my feet up and rest up as much as I could.

Lily - we felt the same way when our first pick donor fell through because of her poor testing result. With the first donor we agonised and debated and went through each profile critically with a fine tooth comb.
When it fell through we were floored but after a good nights sleep my practical head kicked in and the process seemed much easier second time around. We had the new donor picked in just 2 days! For some reason it just flowed better. And interestingly the donor we now have was not even registered when we looked the first time but is actually a better fit - closer resemblance to me, similar personality etc.... We like to think it was just meant to be
Good luck with your searching hope it is swift

We have spoken to Rikki @ sunshine about a gift for our donor, she said CFC are ok with it but ask that it is capped at $200 .... So my next question is for ideas of what to give? I have my own but would love to compare notes

MyHeart, I can't answer your question on having success with a donor who produced more than 18 eggs. But, I just wanted to say that the AMH of 27 doesn't necessarily mean she'll get more than 18 eggs. My AMH is 54.3! I have had between 9 and 18 eggs on my IVF cycles. They keep me on a fairly low level of FSH, and I'm sure they will tailor the donors cycle too.

Any cycle is a bit of a gamble. I think it's great that you've found a donor who really looks like you and that you and hubby both really like her.

    Good Luck!

Hi to everyone else. I'm enjoying reading along. CD1 for me today...for my last ever own-egg FET

Lily72 - So devastating when your 1st choice donor pulls out or fails initial screening. Last year when I did my first cycle my donor's AMH came back borderline and I was advised not to go ahead. I of course was devastated not only for us but for her as well as she would face fertility challenges early in life. Over the course of a weekend I searched and searched and secured a replacement donor. We managed to keep our original dates as well. Good luck on the search I'm sure you will find a replacement soon.

Blinky76 - There's a good chance we will be there the same dates as you!!!

Rachel70 - Welcome Rachel I think you'll find most of us travel to CFC in Cape Town. If you have the time sit down with a pen and note pad and read through all 4 threads. There is a wealth of information ranging from medication to travel tips. It is a great read.

Angelmama74 - I think you're next to go unless there is a lurker about to post! I wish you well and hope that you have a great experience. We have always hired a car. Cape Town is extremely easy to navigate. It is not a big city either.

Sooty - Looks like you are looking into everything. I'm a bit like you second time around. I actually feel quite disconnected from the whole thing and have absolutely decided this is my last attempt unless of course there are any left over to freeze. Good luck with your preparation.

Helen - Count down to the 12 week scan. I hope you get some reassurance although I don't think anyone really relaxes through this journey. So sorry to hear of the loss of one of the twins.

Rainbow - thanks for dropping in and sharing your friend's story. As I have just turned 49 it's nice to hear of others having success at my age.

Abundance1 - Lovely to hear you and the twins are doing well. I can't imagine what you have been through in the past. You are very courageous indeed.

AllieOop & Wishmeluck - Please remember to update when you have bub. I can't wait to start listing the Graduates on this year's roll call.

emski72 - I think our donors are both being screened today.......yay!!! Let's hope for a treatment plan shortly.

MrsErinR - Fingers crossed your last frostie sticks and you won't need to tread this path.

thembs - Hope your surviving the 2WW. Hope you get that BFP next week.

AFM - waiting for my treatment plan.

    Hi to anyone I've missed.

    Baby dust to all

Hi myheart. Regarding egg numbers we retrieved 20 from our donors cycle and I think there were 22 her previous cycle. From memory 19 were good and 16 fertilised. I am sure she was overstimulated but it didn't seem to have an effect on egg quality at all, apparently she was just an excellent responder to stims (she was 22). Dr W told me at CFC they aim for 12-15 eggs in a cycle.
