Default Help! Need to cancel wotif booking...

Last week I booked a hotel near the RCH as DS is having an MRI in 3 weeks and then an appointment a few days later. We thought we'd make a weekend out of it and stay rather than travel.

Good friends of ours have kindly offered us their house as they are going away and it's within walking distance of the hospital. You little ripper I think, there's $500 odd dollars to out towards Christmas etc...

Ive just been on wotif and this hotel says "no refunds for cancellations" so I've called and they said its at the managers discretion, he was not in so I need to call back tomorrow.

Any tips on how I should handle this? I'll be really disappointed in they don't refund with 3 weeks notice.

I would go the sob story route.... As they aren't obliged to give you one. Failing that I would try getting a credit and failing that I'd ask around to see if anyone wanted to buy it off me (and sell it for less than I paid).

You could try a FB buy swap sell type page? Or Gumtree?

    Such a pain!

Same! It has been such a long wait and it's still 3 weeks but so close.

I'd definitely go with the sob story - eg we have to travel 3+ hrs into the city for my son who needs an MRI, but circumstances have changed and we no longer need the room. I'd live a refund being so close to Christmas, that money could buy my boy an xyz...

And the best part, by just saying circumstances gave changed- you're not lying

I'd also go the sob story, maybe a bit of a white lie too & say the appt following MRI has been moved forward to the afternoon, so no need to stay so long. Am sure if you mention RCH etc it would appeal to their kindness!

Thanks for the replies. Just an update, told a white lie regarding change to appointment time, cheers spotty socks, and had no problem getting refund less $25 admin. Stoked!
