Without reading the whole article she has been restricted to 10am to 4pm for visiting hours which is less than other mothers in the same situation.

I think it's awful, so awful. It's cruel to separate mother and newborn like that. And yes, even if it's hospital policy I still think its traumatic and cruel. When DS was born he was sent to NICU at a different hospital and I had to stay overnight at the hospital he was born in and then was discharged the next day so I could go visit him. It was incredibly traumatic. I was devastated to be apart from him so much so early.

I can only imagine how much worse it is for an asylum seeker who is already in turmoil, with no support network, no stability or security and probably already traumatized from events in her country of origin. She should be allowed to stay with her baby as much as is humanly possible. My heart broke for this poor lady when I heard of this story.

Lets not forget also that the baby's father was given no access to the baby whilst in hospital. It is just not fair on a poorly little baby to have their parent by their side for only 1/4 of the day.

I wish them well and togetherness

I agree. Normally I'm not a fan of community placement before someone's story has been checked out but it's not like a new mum with a bub in hospital is going to be off breaking the law or doing a runner.

I didnt read that bit. Sometimes we forget about the fathers but its just as sad when a dad can't see bub.

I think I read that detail in a different article about their situation.

Thank you ladies. I pretty much feel as you all do, I just can't say it as well.
