    Default Mastitis

I think I might have mastitis.

Sore, red breast all day and now have a mild temperature (38degrees).

I have had it once before, caught it early and started antibiotics and all was fine. My question is can I take some panadol/neurofen and ignore it until morning? I really don't want to hunt for a GP and pharmacy at this time of night, particularly when I am not 100% sure it is mastitis (last time my temp was higher and breast had alot more red streaks).

Not sure about waiting but you could get a doctor to your house depending on where you are. We got After Hours GP to visit in Perth (I know they do Melbourne too and similar services in other cities), fully covered my Medicare and were able to provide us with a prescription. They came over really quickly too. At least that way you'll know what you're dealing with.

I did consider this as we have had them out a couple if times before. I am guessing I will still need to go out to a pharmacy though......pity they don't carry antibiotics on them!!

Can you feel a blocked duct? Like a lump? If so, can you feed or express and massage it? It's painful but might clear it before infection takes hold. I would take nurofen as it is anti inflammatory.

There feels like a small ridge/lump that I have been massaging this evening. DS is 12mths so doesn't feed much during the night - he stirred around 11pm so I offered him am extra feed then. I guess I am just a little confused as it feels slightly different to last time (especially apply a slight temp that doesn't seem to be going up)

Any chance you have an electric toothbrush? A former hubber gave me this tip- hop in the shower and use the back of the brush behind the lump. The vibration seems to help break it up. Then pump if you can't feed. Good luck- there is nothing worse!
