This year ive been shopping since I found out I was utd and expecting late this month. I figured the last thing I will want to do is xmas shop with a newborn after having a c section. Good idea in theory but since ive been shopping since April ive gone way overboard. Especially for ds as his birthday is the 12/12 too.

I've never really kept track to be honest , maybe I will this year and see what it all comes to... then again, maybe not...

With my side of the family, I have 3 sisters, 3 brothers (all who have a minimum of 2 kids each) so we only buy for the kids, and we keep it at a max of $25.00 each.

For my DP's side of the family, we usually do a secret santa which has a limit of $50.00.

I always buy my mum & dad, and my MIL & FIL a present, never really thought about the cost though.

Then there's DP, who I don't really keep track of cost and my DD who I don't track cost for either.

I might do that this year though, will be interesting to see how out of pocket I am, maybe I can pull in the reigns and save some $$

Waaaaaay too much We have a huge extended family and no one (except us) seems to want to start doing Secret Santa... We spend about $70 each on 22 adults, about $50 on my nephew, about $30-$40 on each of DHs 3 grandchildren, $25 each on my 4 godchildren, around $25 each on 3 of my cousins (who are children), and a few bottles of wine for various other adults in our lives.... Then there's each other and DD (probably a couple of hundred Dollars each)... Adds up!

We dont spend much though Mil always wants expensive gifts which we just give $100 or a voucher as we can afford to spend too much we just had a baby and trying to save for a house. DH grandmother refuses to buy gifts but will be getting something for bub so maybe a framed pic of bub and some chocs for Xmas that's about it. For my family which is way bigger than DH we do secret Santa and the limit is $100 so we just buy for one person. We started that last year and it's a lot better financially! For bub who will be 2 months old at Xmas we just bought a gold I.d bracelet with name engraved on it. So Christmas isn't costing us a fortune anymore which is great as I think it's not about presents anyhow.I'm sure as bub gets older It will cost more M

Wow that would certainly add up! I'm very grateful for secret santa! We don't even keep it a secret (lol) so we can call and find out what we would like.

I forgot to add that we also have friends that do a secret santa party every year, friends kids, my bestie, and kindy teachers gifts.

I've done nothing this year so far, and this thread has totally made me realise how far behind I am...

DS is having around $500 spent on him, DF and I will probably be $250 each. We also buy for my dad, MIL and FIL, and 6 siblings between us, and 2 nephews and 1 niece. We would spend close to $2000 I think. Oops, I forgot my newborn! DD will get a few toys for throughout the year.

On family (mum, dad, siblings) I usually spend $50-60 each. For extended family and friends I usually make things (home-made chocolates etc). For DD it seems to increase every year! When she was a baby I spends about $25 in total, last year it was about $300...

Have spent $500 on each of the boys. Everyone buys for everyone in dh's family so that equates to about $500 considering we buy descent presents and then my dad, nieces and nephews who I always spoil would be another $600 so = $1,600.
Might be a lot but it is only once a year!
