IMO i will never go to the Gold Coast hospital ever again as i was treated awful when i had my DS there......
when i had my MC early this year i went to Tweed Heads hospital and i found that they were much nicer and more caring to my needs compared to GGH...
It is a little further to travel but i would rather travel the extra 15 mins and get better care and support......
But like anything im sure that there are people who have had a great experience with them.....

I had my second baby at GCH and they were fantastic. I later worked there as a midwife and discovered that I had actually had the BEST midwife to have during my labour but postnatally on the ward they are all lovely except some of the permanant night staff. I wouldn't go there again only because I have worked there and know people. But I do recommend it to others
My experience at the GCH was really positive. I'll be back there early Jan for bub #2. The labour ward is great, you get your own room plus shower and toilet and can have the TV on. I had my first baby during the night so the room was lovely and dark and it felt like it was only me, my hubby and the midwife in the whole place. I also got to have a nice bath to help with my contractions. After giving birth I was able to have a shower and head up to the maternity ward in a wheelchair with bub and hubby in tow. The maternity staff were lovely and caring, couldn't fault them. Even the food was decent! Just a great atmosphere in the ward really, a pleasant experience.
Hi SJ,
I've had 2 bubs at GCH.
Emergency c/s 2002 and VBAC in May this year.
I had a few problems with certain things both times - usually a particular staff member. I would go back to GCH though.
In regards to having th VBAC though I don't think the staff really read my file because i was treated like i had laboured before and i hadn't so i had no idea what was going on for a while. If i had that time over i would have told the widwife that right away.
I went home 28 hours after i delivered bub anyway so the hospital didn't both me at all.

We were holidaying at Surfers last year when I started bleeding (11 weeks pg) so I went to Emergency at GCH. It was just horrible, there were people lying around the waiting room in agony, moaning etc. They triaged me quickly but told me it would be hours and hours before I was seen.
Because they couldn't actually do anything they suggested I come back in the morning and set up an appointment with a special midwife. The appointment the next morning was absolutely fantastic, the midwife was great, she was supportive and understood my fears and already had an ultrasound lined up for me where we got to see bubba safely kicking away and the reason for the bleed.
Honestly I would never want to go to the emergency dept again but the midwife care there (although I didn't have my bub there) was fantastic.
The ED can be very Chaotic! Defianately.Honestly I would never want to go to the emergency dept again but the midwife care there (although I didn't have my bub there) was fantastic.
I have no imput into the GCH as I had my DS at Pindara but just wanted to say there is good & bad in every Hosp unfortunately we just have to deal with them.
Good Luck with your little one![]()

I had Bailey in the GC hospital and it was overall a reasonably good experience.
The night time maternity staff left alot to be desired but I went on early discharge program anyway so was out 3 days later. Then a middie came to my place til day 7 which was great!
Had one nasty midwife on labour wad but lucky it was the end of her shift then the next 2 were lovely (yes I had a Loooooonnnnggg labour!)
I will be going back there for the next bub! As Ang has already said there are good and bad in all hospitals![]()
Good luck with the birth!!
I went there once, as I experienced some vision loss during my preg (but was booked into Tweed Hospital) and they were closer to me at that time. They were incredibly rude and I nearly walked out of there, despite not being able to see properly.
I have heard SO many horror stories about GCH so booked into Tweed, which has an amazing reputation! I can honestly say, if we ever live on the Gold Coast again, I will ONLY be going to Tweed Hosp!!
