My DD will hold her own bottles, but not the milk ones (just water and watered down juice, they're not sippy cups but not the standard milk bottles either, I can't think of what they're called lol). I have to lay her down and then she'll take it, if she's sitting up she'll suck on it but not tip it up properly
I just started putting milk in her water bottles since she's started refusing her milk bottles and letting her do it herself.

Depending on what bottles you use you can get handles that attach to the bottle to make it easier for bub to hold. We use the avent bottles.

My DS 8.5 months won't hold his bottle, handles or no handles! He uses a sippy cup with water in it & will hold that... I just figure I'll keep doing it while he still lets me, I'm sure there will be a time in the future that he won't let me do anything for him!

    What sort of bottle?

My son was holding his closer to nature bottle from about four or five mths.

But every kid is different. He has good fine motor skills and pretty poor gross motor skills.

And he refuses to do some things just because rather then he isn't able

Big picture I wouldn't stress of you feel he doing the 'normal' stuff but if you are concerned about a pattern of not grabbing, clasping, etc etc talk to your Mchn.

I'm sure it's nothing though my ds in one in few days and just started crawling today.

I never had my kids hold their bottles. I held them as though I was breastfeeding but with a bottle. I believe in the attachment and holding part of breastfeeding helps the bond I have with my children. I did the very closest second to breastfeeding I could without the actual fluid exchanging between our bodies. I did this until they self weened from the bottle.

My kids never held their bottles.

My 6 month old can hold her sippy cups but I have never tried her on a bottle so I have no idea how she would go without the handles.

She tries to drink from her sippy cup but her arms aren't long enough to hold it and tip it up at the same time, she ends up getting frustrated and throwing it.

We use Closer to Nature too and we have one Avent Naturals... The crawling thing makes me feel better, she's still not crawling either!
