I expect it to be a dismal failure.
As promised....... As promised....a fail. DD changed her mind about her preferred cake, but it is still clearly a fail. My technique leaves a lot to be desired. I did however nail the rainbow jelly.

SPG you gave it a red hot go! I think you made yours harder too by making it stand up.

I love that rainbow cake. I might have a go for dd's birthday in early December. Watch this space!
Any tips SPG- aside from don't do it?

Don't use low gi icing sugar. I thought that would be a slightly less rubbish choice but it was a fail. I made marshmallow fondant icing (which was great) so i put the blue in to the marshmallows then added the icing sugar which is what the recipe said to do but the low gi icing sugar is a natural (non bleached) colour so it made my blue sky icing go green so I had to add more colour to the fondant after it was formed.

You're right, standing it up was a bit ambitious, especially since it was 2 halves of 1 cake back to back. A half of a thicker/deeper cake would be better.

Use a dolly varden tin. Make sure you butter and flour the tin and turn the cake out when its just cool enough to touch the bottom with your bare hands

Thanks! I'll have to get a pudding tin and try that. I have no idea what a dolly varden tin is. Off to google it!

ETA: I know what they are now 👍
