I think most Halloween haters know that but they still hate it because American's popularised it.

My American friends in Australia are having thanks giving and I've demanded to be invited. If there is some kind of celebratory feast I like to let my friend's know regardless of culture I'm down to party and eat.

I like it - I compare it to Xmas - in theory asking neighbours for lollies is just as weird as allowing young kids to sit on an old mans lap asking for toys! yes it's commercialised but the kids love it and its a great excuse for a party !

Lol. Never thought of it that way, you make a valid and amusing point.

I agree that it is a very American thing and I hate how this country copies the US in so many ways. But I don't care all that much about Halloween, the kids enjoy it and we always went trick or treating when we were kids.
One time a bunch of kids knocked on our door when I was younger and said the standard "trick or treat" line and my mum replied "trick" and laughed (we had run out of lollies)! The children just stood there going "whaaa"?.. Lol.. Must try that
