Musical - yes another 'grandma' here tee hee! Although I've been super-healthy & there are no indications of any issues with bub, I discussed with my midwife the research into increased stillbirth and placenta problems in over-40s once we pass 40 wks. She then raised my case at their team meeting and the two Obs had different opinions! One was adament she would induce on my due date, the other (the head Ob at my hospital) said he would let me go to 41wks.... at this point we're waiting to see if bub appears by mid-next week (I'm due Friday). Iif not then the middie will send me to the duty Ob for a "plan"....so I guess it depends which Ob is working!

Thanks everyone, they just discharged me so I guess I'm lucky (sorry loveandlive)
the food is terrible, I actually turned dinner away and got DH get Chinese!

They said if he can wait 2weeks (whilst not ideal and long enough) at least then I won't have to be transferred. I have to go back every week for monitoring etc as the scan didn't show conclusively any abruption to placenta but still bleeding.
On the plus side we got to see him again and get pics etc, he weighs approx 5 pound so they happy with how he is growing and with the dose of steroids he should be safe if he comes.
Loveandlive I will be 33weeks on Sunday.

Ah hoots goodluck hope he hold on in there. No fun at all.

Just a quick question. I have been having appoint with OB and he just scans to check position but never know how big or small she is. Everyone keeps telling me how small I am. How do I know she is growing alright in there? I know what people say with regard to size is no way to tell but how does the dr tell?? I'm I just being silly because people say I'm so small compared to how far along I am or should I be concerned???

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

LindsayWA- what is ur DD? I just ask them when I'm in having scan if they can tell me, haven't had one say no yet.... I was the same regarding my size until just recently where I'm now being told I've "ballooned" out, still waiting for someone to use a nicer word as now I feel ginormous haha
im sure if you ask next time for approx weight they should be able to tell you x

Lindsey-I was a bit worried too. Every apt I was just in and out feeling like it was all a bit of a waste of time. Then one day I asked, "Is he measuring Ok?, Is his heart rate ok?" And the Ob said, Yes I've already checked. And gave me all the measurements. Turns out every trip he was measuring and checking but never told me the outcomes! Now I notice he measures bub's head and belly cavity. (So cute.) But he still doesn't say anything and is very quick.

I guess these Obs do the same thing day in, day out and don't want to get into conversation! I know our ob is very straight and direct, a man of few words. It seemed like he would just wave the wand over my belly and then we'd be finished, but he was mentally and physically checking the whole time!

I reckon if there was anything out of the ordinary you'd know about it. So feel free just to ask 'so is she measuring to date? 'Xx

LindsayWA, my OB is the same. Check for position and heart not head or belly measurement which they need to do to give you the weight. To get the weight we go to a specialist scanning place such as the Women's Imaging Services in Perth (if that's where you live). Your OB needs to give you a referral. There scans are much more detailed and has a good Medicare rebate.
