    Default 'Elective' C-Section

Can I ask more experienced hubbers....
I have to have a c-section (large, breech with subseptate uterus) and obs wants to book it in for 39 weeks.
Due to the reasons I have to have a c-section there is also a good chance I could go into labour earlier than 40w.
DH wants to have section at 38w in order to avoid early labour and potential infant distress.....
Is there any reason why I can't have him/her at 38w?

Most obstetricians don't like to do elective c sections earlier than about 39 weeks. Both my c sections were done at 38+6 (one elective due to medical reasons and the other just elective). Perhaps discuss with your obstetrician further if you are concerned about waiting until 39 weeks.

I'm going to have DS soon and I'm having a planned csection at 38 weeks.
i had DD at 36 weeks and she was small but healthy so I don't see a problem going in at 38 weeks especially if your baby is measuring big.

Summa, do you know why they don't like to do it before 39wk?

My ob has just booked mine in, he's said he doesn't want to do it any earlier because the last thing he wants is to have bub unable to feed properly because its suck reflex hasn't developed yet... Mine is booked for 38+6.

They just like to be cautious and make sure bub is really ready. I have had 4 c-sec and never made it to the booked date, always go into labor beforehand

I had mine at 38+2. Depending on circumstances my Ob had no issue with 38 weeks.

It's not a major issue if you do, just means they do the c-sec early. I have gone at 37,36 and 35 weeks and there is no way they will book that early.
