Hello all, hoping to join you all I just joined bubhub. I'm 43.3 and starting ivf in mar/apr this year. And I'm single so I'm doing it alone. I have great support around me so I'm hoping I manage! I had a MMC at 42 at 11 weeks, a completely unplanned natural pregnancy. Needless to say, devastated. So here I am, hoping ivf may get me over the line. I'm planning 3 cycles til 44 then I'll quit if they fail. I'm realistic with my age, I know it's going to be difficult. But I need to give it my absolute best shot this year.

Hi twocam, thanks! Own eggs absolutely. I fell pregnant naturally a year ago so am hoping there may be a chance yet with my own eggs.

And massive congrats on your baby boy twocam, how beautiful. I'm a bit behind here, trying to catch up but was he the result of an OE cycle?

Welcome Kelly70. You will find a lot of support on this thread. It is great. If you are setting a limited timeframe, then my advice to you would be to get straight onto a FS who specialises in older women and also to have every test under the sun before you start. A lot of FS won't test for some things at all and some not until you've had IVF failures or miscarriages. I would definitely recommend an immune workup if you haven't had one already.

    Hi to everyone else too.

I received our miscarriage results in the mail along with the result of DH's SCSA . Our miscarriage was an extra chromosome again...Trisomy 22. This is pretty much what I expected. I am relieved though as I would rather hear that than that we had miscarried a perfect embryo. It was a girl this time. The great news is that hubby got an 'excellent' rating on the SCSA so there are no issues there

I have my appt with FS on Monday and I can't wait! It feels like I've waited months. After that we can start making some decisions on what to do next. I'm still leaning the DE way but I guess we'll see. One more FET to try before we do anything else and that should happen at the end of Feb.

Mrsmac I'm sorry to hear what you have been going through. You have a lot of really good support on this thread and I agree with what everyone has been saying regarding being tested. Please see someone who can check what the problem actually is. And also if you do need to have the d and c make sure they test it. When this happened to me my fs was very strong on testing everything and we found afterwards that there was an extra chromosome, as sad as it was I was able to walk away knowing that the mc was for the best and it wasn't something I had done.
Mrs Erin at least you know you can fall pregnant and it's just a matter of finding the right egg. Are you going to try one more icsi after the fet or is that it. I know how hard it is continuing with the treatment. We did 8 in 2 years, pretty much back to back. People have asked me if we will try again and I can honestly say I don't think I could go through ivf again. Good luck with your appointment.
Hi Kelly. I agree with Mrs Erin, make sure you go to a doctor who is experienced with older women. I see your in melbourne, I was with Lynn burmeister and she is one of the best for us more mature women. She does get good results. And she will test you for everything under the sun.
    Welcome Ertgirl.
hi everyone else. I do read regularly and keeping fingers crossed this is going to be the lucky year for you all.

    Hi Everyone

Havent been here for a long time ... Had a perfect girl via IVF as a mature lady (42) own egg . Just had a D&C last week not fun and wondering if and when I can TTC - any thoughts? I am also considering just enjoying my perfect bundle of joy. I am going to get the results of the D&C and I kind of dont want it as I am convinced it is my fault and I did something incredibly stupid.

Kelly - welcome ! and good luck. I use Nick in Melbourne and he does a lot of work with us older ladies.. He got me pregnant with my own egg when no one else could!
    team panda - Hello
MrsErinR - what is an immune work up ? Good luck with your app on Monday !

Mamalinz, congats on your little girl. That is wonderful. I am also with Nick and my experience is that he makes you wait until you've had one normal cycle before trying again. So, that is wait for your first AF post D&C and then wait for the following AF and then you're OK to start again.

I am absolutely positive that you did nothing to cause the m/c. I have had the tests post D&C both times and it has given me much comfort to know that there was a genetic problem and it is out of our hands. This is by far the most common cause of MC....at any age.

I truly believe the embryos, whilst precious, are tough little buggers! If it is possible for them to stick and stay then they will...but sometimes they just can't.

As for immune workup, I was really meaning testing for NK cells, thyroid issues etc. I'm sure if you are with Nick he will do those if he thinks it's necessary. he was very proactive doing them for me.

Panda, you're right, it is great to know I can get pregnant. Just need the right embryo! We haven't decided what to do after the FET. It will be either another (final) Stim, or we will move to donor eggs. We hope to have more info and advice from FS on Monday to aid the decision. I would do 10 IVF cycles with my eggs if there was a guarantee it would work for us but sadly there isn't! I have come to terms with the idea of moving to DE now if we need to. I just want to start our family and have a pregnancy that lasts.

    x
