Default If your Husband/Partner has had a Vasectomy

If your husband/partner has had a Vasectomy, I'm interested to know the time frame from after the actual vasectomy and/or sample given at about the 3 month mark or so, how long was it before you resumed unprotected s8x?

Did your partner do the required 'sample' and then you were given the ok or did you wait longer/not wait and resumed s8x before you were given the ok from the Doctor?

So I guess what I'm trying to ask is when did you both feel it was 'safe' to resume unprotected s8x again.

From vasectomy to unprotected sex was when he got the all clear with a zero sperm count from his sample, which he did at around the 7-8 week mark after the procedure or basically, once he had notched up as many (around 20 he was told) "deposits" in the 6-8wk time frame, which for poor DH was all him, I wanted no part, in any sex until he was given the all clear, not even using protection! I was not willing to risk a pregnancy

You'd be a fool to have unprotected sex until the sperm sample came back with a zero count, but once you have the zero sperm count, then there's no reason not to go ahead, right?

ETA - actually, we didn't have unprotected sex as soon as he got the all clear, because unfortunately for him, when that time happened, I was just starting my period, so he had to wait even longer until I felt up to it, so for us personally, it was around 10'ish weeks post-op that we had sex, which was around 3-4wks post-sperm count.

After his 20 deposits (as another person put it) he had his test which came back clear. Until than we used withdrawal.

Eta I think he had done 2 or 3 swings which was 4-6 weeks after the op.

Thanks everyone, it certainly makes sense to obviously wait until you're given the all clear, but I can't believe how many of DH's work colleagues etc haven't gone back for the testing.

My DH's first test (after the 20 deposits) didn't give him a clearance, so he has done another test which again says the same thing and it's been 5 months since the OP, so I was starting to wonder is this 'normal'. He assures me that the Doctor says its normal to have two tests come back as his has, but I'm not so sure.

Sorry to go off track.. But how old are all of you and how many kids do you have? We are requesting and df keeps getting told no. We have two kids, fourth pregnancy. He is 27 (28 next year) and I can't go lots of contraception without failure because of medications.

    We REALLY want this!!

Thanks Lillynix, that's interesting to know, as I think we're both a bit baffled with what is considered a 'failure'. Can I ask do you remember if your DH have 'non motile sperm' indicated in his results at all?

We are in Adelaide. I requested tubes tied I'm 23. I requested counselling and all. I might just hound at every ob app (I'm private) I'm almost in tears thinking we might end up preg again. I won't cope.

    Sorry unique to crash

I was 35 and H 36 when he had a vasectomy. He didn't return for the test - we waited until he was no longer sore and then resumed. Our thinking was that if we had another then it was 'meant to be' and if we didn't, then it had worked!

But we are go with the flow type of people... this is after 7 kids when we were going to stop at 6. H was keen to sneak that last one in
