Default Cervix not ready - how quickly can it change?

I am 39+4 today. Went to go have a stretch and sweep this morning but she couldn't do it cause apparently my cervix is still too posterior to reach.

I was devastated. I haven't loved being preggy this time around and the doctor told me at a hospy visit on monday that baby was fully engaged and I have been having so many braxton hicks etc I was quite hopeful this morning.

I really don't want to go overdue. I know babies come when they are ready but they won't even look at an appt for me at hospital for induction until 41+2.

Who has had an "unready" cervix check and had it change quickly? Or how long after being told you werent ready at all did it change and you go into labour?

Tempted to go fora nother long walk. the last time I did it I had dreadful period pain for 7 hours but I am at a loss at what else to do.

Have been doing all the right things, taking epo, raspberry leaf tea, nipple stimulation via expressing with an electric pump. And still it isn't ready.

All good and bad stories please

Not me but my sil was turned away at 40 weeks for a stretch and sweep and was told to wait to 41 + before the ob would look at her again as she was appareny no where near ready. Bubs was born 15 hours later only a 4 hour labour too. The ob that turned her away was on shift the morning after and came too see her and explained its not an exact science and bubs really do have a mind of there own.

My sister went in to get checked after seeing her show and they told her that her cervix was shut and not to get her hopes up, she was back 24 hours later giving birth.

On the other hand my cervix was 1cm dilated for three weeks and I still went to 8 days over when I was induced.

thanks ladies, that does give me hope. I have been a bit depressed the last few days, just overtired I think, and that set me off howling.

Actually your replies made me teary so go figure

I don't need to give birth in next few hours but the thought of not being any where near ready made me in the midwife clinic.

I was sent to the post dates clinic at 41 weeks to arrange my induction date, while I was in there the Dr did an internal and told me my cervix wasn't ready but she'd had a 'fiddle around up there'. I don't know if it was her fiddling or what but I went into labour that night and had my DS at 5am the next morning.

My cervix was high, hard and closed at 40+4 when they tried a s and s. Baby was born at 40+9 after a 3hr Labour.

I was 40 weeks when my midwife attempted a sweep but wasn't able to do it. She tried again at 41 weeks and things were much more favourable and cervix was low and soft. I had bub after another sweep three days later, during which time my cervix became softer and thinner still.

Its still relatively early days for you. Your body will know when its ready, best not to worry or try to force it as the best labours happen on their own in my opinion, and a lot can change in a few days.

Midwife basically said the same thing about me today and I'm due tomorrow. I didn't think anything was going on down there but it's good to know that something could possibly happen in the next 24 hours. Positive thinking anyway! If not I have another appt in a weeks time so will probably have another one then

My waters broke just before midnight on Thursday. 5am cervix was still closed. Noon on friday it was 5cm. My daughter was born at 1.49 after 40mins of pushing!
