    Default Antibiotics question

My DS has been on antibiotics for the past week for a viral infection. He has gotten worse today with temperatures of 39 degrees that are only slightly brought down with panadol. We are due to run out of antibiotics tomorrow morning. Our prescription says that a repeat is available. Should I make another appointment for the doctor or should I just go and get another lot of antibiotics?

Why were you given antibiotics for a viral infection? I didn't think they worked for viral infections?

I usually let the temp do the work and avoid reducing it unless it is out of control or they are not coping. My kids always get better within a day or 2 tops.

I'd do both - continue with the abs (so fill the repeat script) and make another GP appt to check that they are still the best course of action

    Good luck x

Your GP is a twit! That makes me so cranky.
Antibiotics don't work for viral infections, only bacterial!
You little taka is just going to have to wade out the viral infection.
Treat symptomatically, that is,panadol or neurofen and tepid baths for fevers and there isn't much else you can do.
Don't waste your time, money and your LO's immune system by filling the repeat on the antibiotic.
