Default Low amniotic fluid and measuring behind at 19 weeks

I had my 19 week scan today and the news wasn't so good. There appears to not be much fluid around the baby and instead of measuring 19 weeks I'm about 3 weeks behind at 16. The ultrasound tech was quite concerned and sent me straight up to see an ob. I've been referred to another hospital for more scans and booked into see a specialist but because of the long weekend it won't be until next Tuesday. So I'm freaking out, he basically said it doesn't look promising has anyone experienced anything like this, really any advice or stories would help. I don't really know what's going to happen or how to think right now. I feel very overwhelmed...

Oh you poor thing, surely they could have done something for you instead of leaving you hanging for 3 days, that is just mean! All the best, try not to stress too much over the weekend.

Im sorry to hear of the news.

I can't imagine how you feel.

I would probably go to talk to a gp tomorrow just to ask questions... see if they can shed any light on what could be happening. ... if they have much knowledge in that area.

Have you noticed any leaking recently?

Most likely they will want to monitor you very carefully as there could be an increased risk of pre-term labour especially if they think that your waters have broken and it's effecting baby's growth. They could also want to try and get you to viability (23/24 weeks) and then deliver bub prematurely depending if baby has stopped growing.

Of course this all speculation, as none of us actually knows what the scan report says or what it means.

Could your dates be out a few weeks and bub is actually the 16/17 weeks old not 19 weeks?

No they kept asking me that but I haven't noticed any leaking at all. Yeah I'm trying not to stress out to much until I know more....my dates could def be out as I had no idea when I fell and lmp was off as I have irregular periods from pcos. Thanks for the replies. Talking about it is helping me stay calm.

There we go!!! Chances are that baby is beautifully on track for 16/17 weeks, but it's really good that your ultrasound technician was on the ball today and the doctors/hospital are going to follow it up and investigate it rather than just ignore it

Did you have a dating scan or any other scan earlier in your pregnancy or is this the first one you've had? If this is the first one, with what you said about being unsure of conception date everything may be fine and the dates may just be off.
Hope everything is fine and try not to stress.

I had a dating scan at the beginning which put me at 5 weeks then another at 7 which confirmed those dates.

Are you hydrated? Try upping your fluid intake as dehydration can cause low amniotic fluid- min 2L of water a day. Otherwise all the best
