    Default Help! Controlled crying

    Firstly please no negative comments.

I am currently up to day 5 of controlled crying with my 9 month old DS and although things started to improve on nights 2 & 3 they now actually seem to be getting worse.

For 9 months he has been a terrible sleeper and I'm now at my breaking point and can not function any longer without some sleep.

He is settling to sleep at 7 with pretty much no crying but for the past 2 nights is waking several times a night crying hysterically. I am going in every few minutes to reassure him but it is taking an hour or more of crying on and off.

I just don't know what to do! Please help!

are you still breast or bottle feeding him when he wakes? If not, he is probably hungry. 9 months is still quite young and some babies still need a feed through the night.

That's great he is settling himself to go to sleep. I agree he is probably hungry. I would feed him and if you are wanting to drop one of his night feeds maybe try reducing time/ amount very slowly over weeks. But I know my Bub still woke for feeding at that age still. We would have the odd sleeping through the night and by 12 months he was sleeping through every night not waking for a feed.

I'm currently doing this with my breastfed 8 month old.
1 weeks of the tough love and weve had about 5 good nights (red swollen blistered top teething gums and vomitting has turned tonight to sh*t though)
When he wakes I give him time to resettle before helping him (as you are doing). If he gets worked up I've been offering him water, if he acts like I'm poisoning him I know it's not hunger, tonight he guzzled 100ml so I gave him boob too.
I did the same with my daughter at 6 months and she'd never take water and took about 2 weeks to sleep through.
DS def seems like a hungrier baby unfortunately.
Hoping it clicks for them soon!

Thanks guys. We do a combination of breast and bottle feeding and he isn't all that interested in milk during the day. Ill try offering a feed at night. When u offer a feed do u get them up feed and put straight back to bed?

During the night I do it all in his room. I don't talk to him and avoid eye contact...hoping he'll get the idea that night isn't a time for socialising.

Well that seems to have solved that problem! In bed at 7, woke at 3 and I gave him a feed and put him back down and he is still asleep! All with pretty much no crying.
