The new year will be here before we all know it! Then it baby making year for you patient ladies

Did my booking with the birth centre today so lets hope bub stays sticky in there. Dd just wanders around like she knew where she was - the receptionist joked that she obviously owns the place having being born there cheeky monkey

Seems my cough (remember this thing I mentioned a couple of weeks back?) Is not going to disappear on its own. Dr prescribed ab's yesterday as my chest apparently sounds terrible! (i didn't think it was that bad but she was quite concerned)

Michelle are you in perth? Is that the kemh birth centre?? That's were I had DS and I was wondering how it goes booking for subsequent births as the first time we had to go for a tour and I figure we don't have to do that again!!

That's horrid about the cough, makes me think I should get mine checked, I'm hacking up my chest every 5 mins and it's been like that for a week... Ah well I'll give it till Friday

Shani, yes at the kemh fbc. I just called in there on my travels and filled in the paperwork. Strange sense of deja vu & definitely not as daunting as when we went in for the tour first time. I would love if we managed to wing the same middy as dd! And I just remembered I forgot to ask about getting a student mw...damn

Yeah, horrible cough. It is annoying more than anything. I'm so tired because I'm up all night coughing!

I just googled this place!! I was told there were no birth centres in wa?? Very excited. I'll be aiming for this place for sure. Is there a catchment area?

Best place ever!! I LOVED it!! No catchment either just book early as they can fill up and they only take a certain amount per month.

Is it completely covered by Medicare or are there external expenses?

The only expenses you would have is your anatomy scan at 19 weeks as you cannot get it done at kemh. You get your gp to refer you for it and there are cheaper places than others. We went to a more expensive place as that was what was closest and it was $180 from memory and you got back $80. Memory is a little fuzzy but I think that was it.

We had Janine as our middy (yellow team at the time). Not sure what the deal is now, they were talking about the changes when I was preg with dd. I elected to wait until after 20wk scan for our first appt so I guess we'll find put in Jan!

The only thing with catchment area mrst is with visiting midwife though i expect you would be ok. We were outside of radius so had a visiting middy from kemh rather than the birth center. Didn't bother us though, she was great too

If you really want a hands off birth, it is the way to go - there is no option of an epi though, you would need to transfer to kemh. They respected my birth 'plan' to a T, ensured dd was attached at the breast and left us to be a family for a few hours before we were bothered with weighing, stitching etc. Overnight, (we had to stay due to influx of women & couldn't be discharged that arvo as we wanted) I only saw the on duty middy twice at 10pm-ish & 3am, she took temps, bp & checked attachment. It was just wonderful to be left alone with dh & our new bundle

And of course, half the world knows how much I rave about water births!

Shani, how do you feel about going through labour again, knowing what exactly to expect? I'm not scared of labour per se, I'm very competitive within myself so I'm scared that I won't do 'as well' (i didn't even use the gas with dd so I feel like I would do worse if I use it next time if that makes sense?) Really crazy I know but I think its something I will need to speak with them about!

I don't remember a Janine but I was yellow to. we had Wendy c and loved her!! She left about half an hour before I delivered and I had a lovely grad midwife jenny for the birth and then for the following 12 hours then had Marion overnight. I couldn't speak highly enough of any of them! And Jenny did our home visits as we were in the catchment area for the bc but we won't be this time.

I'm actually looking forward to it weirdly enough?! I didn't have a bad labour but it was long. Contractions started at 8mins apart Thursday 3pm (valentines day ) continued overnight but I slept on and off. Then waters broke 6am. Got to 2 min contractions by 5pm. Arrived at the birth centre at 7pm. Had DS at 8.19am. I used a tens at home and it was good purely for distraction. Then I used the shower and bath once there. The bath was amazing (they have a new huge one they finished just before I had DS) and I was in there for about 5 1/2 hours!! But I got to relaxed and my labour stalled a bit but Wendy was amazing at recognising when to get out and positions to get me ready to push. I had DS next to the bath then they left us on the floor to enjoy him for over an hour and he fed the entire time! I didn't have any gas etc and I think it helped it was never offered. I still get a high when I think about my birth and how amazing it was to achieve and it kind go made me feel like super woman!

So I hope I can have a similar experience (but maybe a bit quicker!!). It really was the most incredible day or two of my life and I hope that my body can do the same things it did last time.

Sorry that was long, I just really enjoyed my experience
