HamptonK - so pleased your scan went well!

rtkirk - best of luck with your results. I know what you mean about holding your breath. I'm 7 weeks and we're dying to tell people, but just can't be sure things are ok until the 12 week results.

Does anyone know whether I get a referral to an OB at my 7 week scan (Wazza) or do we have another scan before the referral? I just wonder when we need to make the OB decision. Any Brisbane ladies? Who did you choose and how did you decide?

Hi Milly, I'm in Brissie too. I booked in with my Ob pretty much whenI found out as my FS isn't insured to deal with me if I had miscarried. Also, they can be quite hard to get in to. I got a referral from the GP as a GP referral is valid for 12 months but a referral from a specialist is only valid for 3 months. You don't need to have a referral to book in though, just for the first appt.

I'd start ringing around and getting prices etc as there is a variation. Of course who you choose depends on your hospital. I'm going to Sunnybank as it's close to home and I've been there before. Wazza probably has ome Obs he recommends which might be helpful.

Milly888 I am in brisbane. I am going to mater mother private and I am choosing to go through arrivals obstetrics. They are fantastic and I went there for my last pregnancy, they have a great team and really look after you.

Milly I'm in Brisbane too and got a list from Wazzas office of recommend OBs. I'm going to the Wesley with Nicki Whelan and have my first OB appointment in just over 2 weeks.

I'm in Perth Milly, but I was told as soon as I got my BFP to start looking around for an OB so they could send all the info from my 7 week scan to them. You can call around, ask about their management fees and any other information that's important to you.

I booked in with my OB, then just went to my regular GP to get the referral I needed to take to the appointment.

Milly - I'm in Melb but sounds like it's the same. My FS said to book in as soon as I knew which private hospital & OB we wanted - as he said the OB usually have a certain number they take for each due month- so as soon as I got home I booked in
I then made an appt with my GP and she did screening blood & urine tests and wrote a referral up incorporating those results. I gave a copy to my FS who was also going to write a summary of treatment / referral for my OB.

I am in Sydney's northern area and the same here - I seriously think some women have sex and then book in as when I called around at 4 weeks pg some were already full!!

I have a great local GP who I trust implicitly. I got recommendations off him rather than my FS (who is in the CBD). I am using the same OB as my GPs wife did for their 3 kids and he was one of the booked out ones but my GP rang and got us in as a favour!!

I've heard that apparently some women make a booking as soon as they've ovulated, or in the case of ivf once they've had their transfer so they can book in with the Ob of choice.

Most have a quota per month, so if you're due late in any given month you might find it harder to to get a place than someone due at the beginning of the month.

Congrats to those with successful scans - hope to join you next week! Sorry to hear about your Mum Veritas. You seem to be managing very well which is great for you and bubs.

Crazy about the obs filling up so fast! I'm going public so haven't considered any of that. I thought if I had complications I would book one then but now it seems like if I didn't book weeks ago I'll have trouble. Oh well, fingers crossed I have a straight forward pregnancy!
