DD's adult teeth growing through already don't fit in her mouth and are overlapping. I don't point this out to her or comment on it. It's not something she needs to be self conscious of. But if she doesn't grow into them I want to be able to get them straightened.

I'm not defending the mum in the obvious publicity grab article. I'm just raising the question of why one is acceptable and the other isn't?

I think there's a huge difference between fixing crooked teeth & getting a boob or butt job. I don't think that really needs to be explained.

I had a b00b job, I would support my DD if she wanted one. I wouldn't save for it or pay for it, and I think she is perfect the way she is, but she might want one one day too.

I don't see the huge difference between braces and a boob job though? Both are generally used to correct largely cosmetic problems. I had b00bs of very different sizes, which caused me to be very insecure. When I was old enough, I made the decision to get the problem that caused my insecurity corrected. Ask anybody who knows me, it was the best decision for me and my own self confidence.

Don't get me wrong, I am not defending this woman's choice to push this kind of decision onto her child. She is probably a right b*tch who is pushing her own agenda onto this poor bub, and will continue to do so throughout this child's life.

I'm just saying that I would support my DD if she chose to have cosmetic surgery as an adult, and that I personally think it is not bigger a deal than any other kind of appearance enhancing procedure, braces for crooked teeth included.

I think braces are often more than cosmetic- misaligned teeth etc can lead to significant pain and other dental problems, so a bit different to a hobo job (haha best autocorrect yet so I'm leaving it!!)

OK, sure for either procedure let's take non-cosmetic reasons out of the equation, and just go with the cosmetic reasons. Is there any difference then? Both DH and I have had dental procedures for cosmetic purposes, me braces and he has crowns. Is it really that different to fixing small and uneven b00bs?

Well, yes on the small part. Small boobs don't need "fixing" because they're not damaged or broken or faulty.

Crooked teeth can lead to psychosocial probs sure, but they can also create problems with dental hygiene which leads to bigger problems later iykwim. I think small boobs are just small- they don't cause any problems health wise that implants would fix. Neither do uneven ones, come to think on it, but they are more likely to cause a psychosocial problem if it's obvious and be something the owner is conscious of.
Crowns are usually done if there is a serious cavity or other problem as an alternative to removing the affects tooth and while there is definite cosmetic benefit there is also the benefit to the rest of the as teeth will often shift to compensate for the gap so not sure if class them as cosmetic.

I see what you are saying. However I feel that psychosocial problems could be as problematic to the mental health of an individual as dental problems could. I know that DH had his crowns for purely cosmetic reasons. He was very insecure about hit teeth, they were not causing him any physical problems however socially they were very problematic.

Again, I am not saying that I agree in any way with this woman and what she claims to be doing. Actually I think it is pretty pointless, how does she know what her daughter is going to think of her b00bs in 20 years time? She may have the self esteem to love herself the way she is.

It's more the idea that cosmetic surgery is for some reason taboo or controversial. I personally do not see it as taboo and controversial.

I really just don't think braces and fake boobs are the same. I kind of think its silly to compare the two. ( not saying anyone on bh is silly, just this comparison is silly). Unless if course it's for a medical condition but that's not the norm. I wonder what the response would be from everyone here on BH if a mother posted on saying she's saving for a boob job for her 4m old. That mum would be slammed pretty hard and fast.

    Yes this.

I doubt she's putting any money aside or "going without".
This is not about her daughter.

This is all about her and garnering a bit more attention to further her *cough* modeling career
