Default Baby shower or gift grab???

I'm sure it's been discussed before, but what's your view? Do you think it's a nice celebration or do you think it's rude & just an excuse to get presents. Interested to know people's opinions.

90% of the ones I've been invited to have been a lovely celebration. I've had the occasional invite though that makes it sound like a gift grab...usually where elaborate gift registries are involved.

Most that I have been invited to have had 'gift grab' written all over them, but a few have been so nice and truly felt like they just wanted to celebrate the impending birth.

I have never had one with my 4 but got asked this time to have one being my last and its a girl ( I have 4 boys). but honestly I do not feel the need to have one and would rather not.

I know one girl who has had a baby shower for every baby she has 3 in the last 3 years and i just feel its a gift grab..... i can understand it for the first but when you want one for every baby its a bit greedy .

I have only been to ones that were true celebrations of very wanted babies.

I don't care if it is your first or 119th. Every child deserves to be celebrated.

But if it's not a gift grab, why is it only okay for the first? If you believe in having baby showers, isn't every baby worth celebrating?

I love them! Attending, hosting, being the mum...

    All babies should be celebrated!

Generally I don't mind them and love gift shopping. However I once got an invite to one with the invite stating that as the mum to be already had everything she needed for the yet to be born DD2 due to having a DD1 she would be having a wishing well and asked for some $$. That I did not agree with....

I agree, i love them too. And usually I'd buy a gift for the baby regardless of whether there is a shower or not so it doesn't bother me.

Sure some people might make it all about the gifts, but most ive been too are really about celebrating the mother and the newest addition to their families.

Never had one and never been to one. My only impression of them is what I've read on BH over the years and they seem to be more trouble than they're worth! I like the idea of a blessingway/motherway though.
