Default How do you get a medical termination?

I've just found out I'm pregnant, big, huge shock. I've not told dp yet. I never thought I would consider a termination, but this is so unplanned I feel I need to consider, depending on how dp reacts. As freaked out shocked as I am I'd be ok with another child but if dp is really upset I'd want to get a medical termination organised quickly - I couldn't face surgical unless something really wrong with the baby (probably that is just memories of the videos the Irish nuns showed us at school, I have no moral objection to abortions I just feel if it is right choice for us the medical route would be preferable)
anyways, I naively thought I could ask my gp for it - kind of like a very late morning after pill. But after reading a few threads on here sounds like much more to it?

Your gp should be your first step- make an appt and discuss the options. It may just be the shock and you might realise in a few weeks time you want the baby.
Having said that, a gp will certainly point you in the right direction in terms of what you have to do should you choose not to continue with the pregnancy.

Hi there, if you do decide that you do not wish to continue with the pregnancy, Marie stopes should be able to give you all the info you need on medical abortion. They have a 1800 number you can call. Its my understanding that you don't need to see your gp first before having an abortion (in qld anyway), however medical abortion can only be do e in very early pregnancy I think before 9 weeks. All the best.

A local womens clinic. As a pp said, you don't need to see a gp first (in NSW). They can give you the prescription.

    Huge hugs!

Thanks everyone for the advice. Dp was actually rather good about the news slightly shocked but not as much as me! Really the idea of termination was just if he couldn't handle but as he's ok we'll see this through! I'm cramping a lot and 40 so nature might take it out of our hands anyway. Just going to go the old fashioned way of taking it as it comes... At least that's the working theory :-)
