Default Early Pregnancy and Paint fumes

    Hi All,

First time mum to be here - 4 weeks along so taking things one day at a time!

My question might seem stupid but I am assuming like all FTM's I am being over cautious!

I work for a paint making company (in the office not in the factory) but I often attend meetings or need to speak to the operators in the factory usually every day. My question is whether I should be concerned? Obviously it is way too early to tell my employer at this stage.

    Thanks x

Pregnant or not, I would be limiting time spent inhaling paint fumes.

You may just need to avoid it as long as possible, then if it gets too much you may need to tell your boss sooner than expected. Once your sense of smell kicks up a notch the smell may send you running to the loo!

There are parameters in place in all standard workplace agreements that your employer has to provide a safe workplace for you. Particularly in pregnancy they are obligated to modify aspects of your job that may pose a risk to you or your baby. You may need to confide in your boss so they can arrange for the operators to come into the office to speak with you if needs be.

    Good luck!
