Default Fear of noise in three year old

My three year old daughter has an extreme fear of curlew noises. For those who haven't heard a curlew, they are nocturnal birds, local to our area, that make a very eerie wailing noise. We've tried everything we can think of to help her overcome her fear including:
    *watching YouTube videos of them
*talking through that it's just a silly noise and they can't hurt her
*going on "curlew hunts" at night with a torch
*going to the local wildlife park and seeing them
She happily talks to us about curlews, makes up songs etc but as soon as they wail it's all over.

Tonight we had one wail in our front yard during dinner and she just lost it; jumped out of her seat screaming. Same happened when she heard one from her room... She's lying next to me refusing to sleep at the moment. I've never had her this worried.

Basically I just want to know:
1- what else can we do to help her overcome this fear
2- is her extreme reaction... Normal?

I don't blame her. No amount of prepping me as a child prepared me or the first time I heard the cries at my Grandparents new property. They still give me the heebe Jeebies!! Not really sure what else you can do to help her sorry. Maybe only time will help now too?

Oh yes DS will happily talk about them until the cows come home he's not scared by them at all when he sees them just the noise they make doesn't help that we have a curlew reserve just down the road he was fine with the noise until a couple of months ago I'm not sure what's changed

OP I still remember being terrified of them as a child, and that was over 35 years ago. We lived beside a huge park in Townsville and they'd congregate at night and frighten the heck out of my sister and me.

My parents would play music in our room and try and get us to focus on that. You could also try meditation music to focus her attention away from the curlews. Good luck. They make an awful sound.

I hope the music helps! They really do make the most awful noise - I'd never heard one until I was an adult and the first time I did, it was horrible!!
