    I love Taupo. Hot springs without the stink of Rotorua, lol.

    I'd also go through New Plymouth given the time of year, they have The Festival of Lights which is awesome, huge Central Park lit up, free music and entertainment. Lovely black sand beaches, beautiful national park with a stunning mountain. It's very laid back.

    I recommend Rotorua and Taupo. I love it there! And in Auckland head up the Skytower

    Just finished booking our holiday:
    5 days in Wellington (for DH conference)
    3 nights in Rotorua
    3 nights in Auckland
    3 nights in Bay of Islands (Paihia)
    1 night back in Auckland before morning flight home.

    Te Papa museum in Wellington was awesome with the kids. I loved having coffee at the Chocolate StarFish Cafe (there are road traffic signs warning of waiters crossing the road).
