    Default NZ holiday suggestions

We're off to New Zealand for two weeks at the start of December - hurrah! DH has a conference in Wellington for a few days so our plan is to start there and finish in Auckland. We will hire a car. DS will be 5 months by then.

We're only going to do the north island, I've been to the South Island before (in my young, carefree, trendy snowboarding days...god that feels like a thousand years ago!!)

Any tips or suggestions on 'must sees/do'?

I just got back from a tour of the North Island. I definitely recommend Rotarua for the hot natural springs and the lion park was amazing too. Mt Ruapehu is also gorgeous! And where I got engaged lol.

I love Taupo. It's beautiful. The lake is so nice. You've also got Huka falls nearby and the Huka jetboat if that's your thing.
Rotorua is close by so you can tie all of that in together.

I was born and raised in Auckland. You should definitely leave enough time to explore it - it's a beautiful city. Also recommend Tauranga. Pity you can't go further north to the beautiful Bay of Islands. Ooh, I'm jealous!

Volcanic Plateau, Rotorua, Lake Taupo, Waitomo Caves. East Coast (Hawkes Bay etc) is very pretty if you've got time.

Thanks ladies! Everything I read sounds so good, it's still hard to decide! We're currently thinking of basically going up the middle, so Wellington, Taupo, Rotorua, Auckland, up to bay of islands then back to fly out of Auckland. We'll stay a few nights in each place so should have plenty of time for side trips, I just don't want to be moving every day or two with a baby, I'd rather get set up for 3-4 days in a few main spots.
    So excited, love holidays

We're going to Italy next May for a wedding so this will be a good practice run for flying with a bub...won't be doing the usual 'few drinks, few movies and sleep' that we usually get to do on a plane!

I also recommend Tauranga which you can stop off in after Rotorua as it is on your way to Auckland. There you have amazing beaches and a dormant volcano (Mt Maunganui). The good thing is also that school holidays start closer to xmas there so will not be too busy.
