Email the ASRC and ask them about it, why don't you? They deal with asylum seekers directly, that's who their sources are. If info from the horses mouth isn't enough to convince you, I can't help you.

I will read into that that you cannot find any other sources other than Victoria's one-liner, but will still believe her above those in positions of authority and accountability. It's a bit weird, but if it makes you feel better (or worse?) to think that these women are only getting one tampon at a time then believe what you like.
I would much rather listen to the department and other refugee agencies who can actually state what the policy is.

Who was the 'horse'? I have not heard anything from 'the horse's mouth'.

I will read into THAT that you are not interested in learning more about the situation because it would mean seeking information yourself that might force you to reexamine your views on what is happening to refugees as a result of being detained.
I read into THAT that the words of asylum seekers experiencing these issues (the proverbial horses) is not good enough for you as a source of information about what they themselves are experiencing and I find THAT a bit weird actually, but if it makes YOU I feel better to believe those in authority (the perpetrators) rather than those in detention (the victims, if you will) then believe what you like.

Stating what the policy is is pointless. The policy can be viewed by a million people at any time but that doesn't change what is actually happening. You surely know that just because something is policy that doesn't mean that is how it is carried out.

Quite the opposite. I would love to learn more about this allegation and have repeatedly asked for more information. If it has been 'widely reported', then I should not to write letters to people in order to get information that is widespread. If you have references that may help me to learn more about this, I would love to read them.

Yes. I'm glad Brandis is sticking to his election promise on this one. I was worried they were going to backflip.

People can *feel* anything that they like, but acting on or expressing those feelings in a way that would make a racial group feel targered or threatened or using your influence (such as media) to illicit hatred or to deny opportunity or further marginalise based on race is unacceptable. .....and for a government to wind back laws is unthinkable. The only I people who stand to benefit from this is bigots and the media. Which brings us back to murdoch.

Brandis is not making his task of getting this through this Senate (or the next) any easier. Announcing that you want to hand a megaphone to bigots so they can broadcast hate speech is not a winning strategy.

I hope you're right, JohnC. I thought being Tony Abbott wasn't a winning strategy but apparently I was wrong there
