Not quite govt. related, but it looks like the climate change fear mongering is no longer working. Not many people are even worried about it any more.

No boats now for 3 months!
There is however now return trips taking place with people returning home as the numbers in detention centres continue to decrease.

Operation Sovereign Borders—Joint Agency Task Force update

14-03-2014 - This statement provides an update on Operation Sovereign Borders (OSB) activities related to the off-water reception and processing of illegal maritime arrivals.
The reporting period is from 9.00am Friday 7 March 2014 to 9.00am Friday 14 March 2014.

During this reporting period there were no illegal maritime arrivals transferred to Australian Immigration authorities.

Twenty illegal maritime arrivals were transferred to the offshore processing centre in Nauru.

Eight illegal maritime arrival transferees were voluntarily returned to their country of origin after electing to go home from an offshore processing centre— five to Lebanon, two to Iran and one to Sudan.

Two illegal maritime arrival detainees were voluntarily removed—one to Iran and one to Pakistan.
As at 9.00am Friday 14 March 2014, there was a total of 1314 people on Manus Island, 1136 people in Nauru and 1707 people in the Christmas Island facilities.

But this government is all about secrecy, so I'm not sure why they are telling the people this???

The problem was not the Conversation fact check (which was no doubt accurate at the time of publication) but the AIMN blog article, which failed to do even the most rudimentary checking (including reading the article being criticised).

It should be noted the author of the article (Michael Taylor) has in the past week had to pen a grovelling and extensive apology for another article that again he sourced entirely from the internet.

The lesson is that the worth of an article lies not in whether it confirms our own position but whether or not it is true.

Thanks for that link. That was an amazing apology! I have to give him credit for at least admitting his mistakes. But it seems he has not really learned too much from it as he is still publishing without checking basic information.

Particularly the Facebook page of Bjorn Lomborg!

But in any case such surveys rarely tell us anything useful -- they are just a snapshot of which anxieties are receiving the greatest media prominence in the weeks prior.

I look forward to his next apology then.

Yep, that doesn't look like a dodgy link at all. Pffftt.
