I think god is only capitalised depending on what type of noun you're using it as.
Gosford Anglican's signs I'm assuming were the work of one person with an opinion. It says alot about the politics of that one particular Church. I actually found alot of their signs quite offensive as a Christian (and I don't get offended very often), and would definitely not go to one of their services. In my opinion, they do not talk on behalf of God, despite regularly doing so on their signs.

You haven't answered my question now...what does it mean to you to be a Christian?
If you give me your number (how many refugees to accept each year), then I will get into a religious discussion with you. Not that I see the relevance to this thread, but hey, its yours you can go as off topic as you would like.

Is 20k the 'magic' number? If not, how many can Australia take?

We already spoke about this several times, including a couple of nights ago???? I already posted the answer in this thread.

But it's ok, I understand that question is probably a bit hard for you to answer

Not hard at all. Off topic yes. But not hard.

So your asylum seeker policy is open door? We can accept all that ask for asylum? Anything less would be in-compassionate and a violation of human rights? Is that correct?

I promised myself I wouldn't keep from posting further in this thread... but I can't help myself lol

It's laughable that this govt are espousing true christian beliefs. Jesus said to love and respect your fellow man, to give him your clothes if he is cold. Do unto others as you would have them done unto you.

This govt is racist, xenophobic, extreme right wing in every respect... and couldn't be further from the teachings of Jesus. It's ironic that us 'heathens' are the ones advocating that society should look after it's most disadvantaged, both here in oz and around the world. And these 'christians' are using religion to shield themselves from what are in fact anti religious beliefs and rhetoric.

It's disgraceful and highly divisive. Others may be fooled but I'm certainly not. Christians? please.

No. Not sure why you are putting words in my mouth. Why do you keep coming back to this question? I acknowledge I don't have all the answers, do you? But I do think we have the capacity to accept more, and to show compassion to all persecuted people, whether they have money or not.

In 2012-2013, 5624 people arrived by boat and 675 were refused. That means an awful lot of asylum seekers were genuine, money or not. Or should we just send them back home to be murdered?

So how do you decide who gets to speak for God?? Genuinely interested to hear your answer. Every Christian I know speaks of Jesus' love and compassion for all humans- apparently he wasn't terribly concerned with birder protection. As a Christian, do you not want to help those less fortunate? I agree the boats are dangerous- what if we were to offer flights to asylum seekers to bring them here safely? Or safe ships? Would that be acceptable to you?

I find the posts of today regarding Christians to be quite interesting. Correct me if I am wrong, but none have actually been Christians, yet all seem to look up to and respect Christian teachings. It is great to hear people talking about Christianity with such respect and admiration. There should be more of that I think. Keep it up.
