    I don't think your insurance will cover paediatrician costs as your baby will not be an in patient in hospital. Best to check with your insurance provider.

    I didn't keep exact figures but estimate we were about 5k out of pocket for each of our private c-section births with full private health cover. That includes ob's management fees and visits and all specialist fees for the births

    I was able to claim our paedatrician fees with Medicare as bubs is considered an outpatient when born, even with family cover which we have.

    We also had family cover but had to separately pay for paed birth and after birth check.

    My health fund covers my baby and the pediatrician costs? I have family cover with MBP. You just need to add bubs to your cover within 60 days of the birth and they back date it

    I was told that my bub would be covered by my PHI if he needed to be admitted into special care etc. However, as he was just checked over by the paed he was technically an outpatient boarding with me which is why we received a bill. I then claimed at Medicare and got most back as I was over the safety net.

    So did your phi cover cost of paediatrician to attend your c section?
