Yes you are. That's what equal opportunity is. It means everyone having the same level of opportunity. ie- the ability to get to the same place with the same level of ease.

Oh well we have different definitions then don't we. I suppose that makes me ignorant to.

I count equal opportunity as having the equal opportunity to feasibly follow ones dreams. Ease doesn't come into it: it's an unrealistic measure and you are never ever going to be able to even the ease out.

Let's look at the school I work at and the school my daughter will start next year.

Fundraising made at election sausage sizzle...

    School 1 - $300
    School 2 - $1900

True story. Guess which one is which.

Another public school in my local area is having its first fete. Some parents were complaining about it because it was only going to raise $5k. Do you know how much the school I work at would love $5k and how much that would mean to the school!?!

Out of curiosity, what is your definition then?

If everybody started school at the same level, there would be no need for best start assessment! How much easier a teacher's life would be!

Read my previous post. My school was a povvo public school and yeah text books were crappy but I still had the opportunity to improve my life .. It just took hard work and getting over the fact that my second hand textbooks had writing all over them (usually Sally hearts Tom etc..)

Would it make you more comfortable if I started throwing around the hairy armed hippy style comments again?

There is one public school where I live and I have found this to be absolutely true. There are children who attend only 2 out of five days because mum wasn't home or didn't get out of bed. Children who wear filthy uniforms, have no breakfast or lunch. Children who cannot recognise numbers.

    It's so not equal.
