    Default Black car

Finally the right car has come up second hand for sale. It has all the safety features we want, is a great price and been looked after perfectly. Only problem is .. It's black. About to have our first and want it to last for all our kids (5 max, if we are lucky enough).

Anyone have a black car? My dad keeps saying. It will show all the dirt and get scratched and also it's a 4WD which means scratches driving next to bushes etc. should we wait and hope another one comes up. It's not like it's cheap!

My last car was black and yes it was awful, showed every tiny scratch, always looked dirty, if parked in the sun it got SO incredibly hot. I would never buy a black car again. But if it has everything else you want I'd probably consider it, not buy it though lol!

    Sorry!

We have a black car and I don't think it shows the dirt any more than other cars. It certainly doesn't look dirtier than any of the others parked in our street.

    I'm not sure about scratches.

I do love black cars though. White is so sensible.

We have a dark metallic blue wagon and a white 4WD. Wagon always looks filthy and it is garaged more than 4WD.

We live regional with lots of red dirt and wished we'd never bought the dark car, it is impossible to keep clean.

We have a black car and it constantly looks dirty. But if you've found the perfect car, who cares? I wouldn't pass it up just because it's black.

We've had a few black cars. They look gorgeous washed and cleaned up. But I found they do show the dirt and dust.

It also depends on your climate. Out where we live it gets to 46 degrees in summer and getting in the car took your breath away on those days. Mind you we have a navy commodore atm and for some strange reason despite being very similar in colour it is no where near as hot.

If it's the right car i would go for it. We have a black car and a deep red car. I don't think the black one looks any more dirty than the red. I didn't want black! It's DHs car! But it's nice. We live in qld.. it does get hot. .. but so does the red one. Argh.. I'm no help!!!

I agree with FL. I have a black car that pretty much always looks dirty but I'd still buy the car if you love it! It's enough to be a bit annoying but I don't really care about having a dirty looking car haha. Don't people get judgy about clean 4wd's anyway? Haha

I have a black car and don't think it's any more prone to showing dirt than other cars I've seen. I would only pass up a car if it was white. I hate white cars, they look like government cars. It does get hot in summer though, but I suspect that's also due to the charcoal leather interior. I'm in Melbourne so it doesn't get super, super hot. But it rains a shed load and most cars around here always have water spots on them.

If it ticks all the other boxes, I'd get it.

Thanks everyone. We have a dark green car at the moment and I'm not hugely pedantic about it staying clean the heat was another thing I thought of but we are moving from qld to hunter valley so I have no idea what it would be like. Think we will go check it out and have a drive and see from there!
