    Unhappy PLEASE HELP! Abnormal Ultrasound!!

I went for my 19/20 week ultrasound today and it showed an abnormality on our sons left foot. It looked like a big gap between his regular toes and his big toe. His big toe looked much bigger too. They said everything else on him looked perfect and they I would be hearing from my OB on Wednesday at my appointment about scheduling more ultrasounds. They said that he didn't appear to have any chromosomal abnormalities. I looked it up on google and it said it's called a sandal gap and it's sometimes found in people with Down Syndrome.

Have any of you had this happen to you and your baby, and did your baby turn out "normal"?

Please, any advice would be appreciated.

I'd be ringing your Ob's rooms on Monday, first thing. No need to wait til Wednesday. I assume it was the ultrasound tech who was telling you what was seen - it needs to be properly reported by an ultrasound specialist and that might in itself make the ultrasound normal. Sometimes things can look distorted on scans when they aren't really distorted.

I hope it ends up being nothing or at the very most something quite minor.

The left foot looked clearly different on the ultrasound than the right. It looked like there was a big gap between the big toe and the smaller toes. The big toe looked pretty big too. I just heard back from the doctor and they said all my blood work showed normal and that I tested negative for all those chromosomal abnormalities.

I still just want to hear some positive stories about people who saw the same thing as me and their kid turned out "normal". Yes, I hate to use that word but you know what I mean.

My ultrasound tech told me I was going to lose the baby..... I'm now 32w with a healthy massive baby on board.
Take what the tech says with a grain of salt and GOOGLE IS NOT YOUR FRIEND!!

Maybe get a repeat ultrasound done to double check? My friend was told at the 20wk ultrasound that her son had cleft palate. ..they asked her if she wanted yo abort. She got a second one done 3d out of pocket and he was fine. ..There was nothing there.

My dd2 showed as having a cub foot during my ultrasound. This is common with children born with spina bifida, she had no other signs of this so they were confident it was isolated to the foot.

when she was born it was bearly noticeable, so it was hugely distorted by the ultrasound. Dd2 didn't even require treatment for it

try not to stress, and stay off google, it's not your friend!!

    Good luck xo

My friends baby showed foot abnormalities on US. Hers were bilateral (both feet). She was also told it could be a marker of lots of different disorders.
At birth the baby had mild talipes ( club feet) which required casting to correct them but that child is now 4 and is fine with no ongoing foot problems.

    Good luck xx.

    Thank you!

Yes, it looks like sandal gap toe. I tested normal for all blood work including the chromosomal tests. Hopefully it's nothing to worry about. I'd love my child no matter what. I just don't want him to have a harder life than he has to. Also, I like to prepare...look for therapists and whatnot before the child is born.

    Default update please!!

Hello dreamingofdimples. I know it has been a few months since your post, but I came across it online as I did a search for "sandal gap". I am currently experiencing the exact same situation as you. I am 20 weeks and just had my ultrasound which saw that the baby has sandal gap on the right foot. I am negative on all bloodwork and no other markers on u/s.

Can you please update me on how things turned out with your little one? Did you do any further testing after the u/s? I would greatly appreciate it!
