Why would any normal person be considering marriage to a person they have known five minutes on the Internet?

Nah I don't think he posted a photo. He had a profile picture but I don't really remember what he looked like. I reported it as spam and its been removed from my inbox now (screen shot was from a conversation with my sister as we were having a laugh over it). But it's not funny at all when innocent people are being scammed.

    Crikey :-/
I know Dr Phil is a bit lame, but he's done a couple of good shows about "catfish" as they call them, maybe you could show your friend?

That's the least worrying thing here- she won't be meeting this guy as he doesn't exist- he's a bunch of words and a photo on the Internet. Soon "he" will ask for cash- that's when you need to worry as your friend sounds naive enough to give it.

It's a scam. There's no boyfriend. "He" will need $20,000 for some sort of emergency soon enough.

Oddly enough on another forum I go on about dogs there has been a few scam messages from Italian posters , the mod had to block them. I too would direct your friend to info about scammers and if she doesn't listen then there is not much you can do.

OMG, this sounds so similar to a girl I used to work with. *Met* a guy online, an ER dr from maine, widowed 7 years prior after a very short marriage and sudden illness. He was going to come here to meet her and they were going to ttc on that visit and they were talking about her moving to the US in 6 months. He supplied a photo, probably of some random he stole off facebook. Just before he was due to come out, he contacted her and said his parents had been killed in a car accident and couldn't come (her mother contacted the police in the area he claimed it happened and they had no record of any such event). Tell her to be careful.
