Default 9 good reasons to NOT use baby rice cereal

I thought this was well worth sharing with others, as I didn't know this when my boys were starting solids but I really wish I did. (They didn't eat much if this stuff, but I wouldn't have bothered with it at all ha I of known)

A few if the points aren't really valid in aus (American article, but it translates nonetheless) and I have pointed that out below- but the question remains why do we still buy this? And worse- why do some working in the baby field still push it?
I remember telling a worker at a sleep school tha I was doing BLW with my 7 month twins, and that they eat what I do. She was horrified, said they would be iron deficient since my milk lost iron at 6 months (not true) and I needed to put them in rice cereal ASAP!

    Article here: http://www.analyticalarmadillo.co.uk...-rice.html?m=1

    Quick run down:
1 it's bland and tasteless- yet sweet, which many influence later food choices

    2. It's outdated

    3. It's highly refined

    4. It can amuse deficiencies.

    5. It's high in sugar

    6. It could be linked to diabetes

    7. It can contain arsenic (this is in America, not true for au, thankfully!)

    8. It can contain other toxic metals (not sure of validity of this one either)

    9. It pointless!

See I don't even have kids yet but have no desire to feed them rice cereal for those kind of reasons. I figure if I don't want to eat it - why would my baby? (I should mention this theory doesn't really work for breast milk because I don't have a desire to eat that!)

One of my facebook friends was whooping on about her babies first solids at 3 months eating rice cereal and i had to bite my tongue.

Yeah I always silently freak out when people put rice cereal in bottles etc to help babies sleep longer... Outwardly I smile and nod, but inside I

That's my main reason haha I wouldn't touch the stuff so I can't bring myself to feed it to my kids. At least vege and fruit purées taste nice!

Ive never understood how processed cereal with an added iron supplement was recommended over a natural , fresh source of iron rich food ( meat, seafood, legumes, green veggies ect )

People generally add it to bottles as a thickener to help treat reflux.

Honestly, I dont get the whole hooplah with rice cereal. ... its ground rice? Rice is a very common food (and first food) in many cultures around the world. You can make it at home. I also dont get thr shock that it converts to glucose (sugar) in the body... um rice is a carb & carbs do convert to glucose as fuel for the body/ brain... I dunno, it just seems a whole lotta hullabaloo about nothing!
