The National Security Agency in America has been providing information about domestic citizens Internet/email useage and mobile usage to federal law enforcement agencies to illegal launch investigations into US citizens.

Givd the government a little bit of power in that field and its not entirely far fetched to imagine where they would take it in 5, 10, 15 years time.

Julian Assange reckons he's got the dirt on some labor people that would see them charged with treason.

But that is neither here nor there. I have experience with media blackouts, where the media only shows one side of the situation. And when that happens, the people on the "other" side, are made out to be villains and evil and no amount of telling the other side of the story sway people from believing that it is all one sided. At the end of the day, most people get their information from the media and most people trust it.

We are all adults, most Australians are educated, we need to make up our own minds about things - and I will never, ever support media blackouts, no matter the reason. Julian Assange has it just about right.
I'm against media blackouts ... For the most part. Definitley in the asylum seeker boat issue. Assange falls into a totally different category IMO (not freedom of speech... he revealed national security secrets at risk to us all).

We've talked about Assange before, I know you don't agree with what he did. I personally don't agree with all of what he did, but spilling the beans on the horrifying civilian carnage that the US tried to cover up - I am all for.
