My issue with that is either people not being aware that there is actually a filter happening and it possibly being too complicated for people to complete the opt-out process.

    Yep!

And according to Father, he was waiting over one hour to talk to someone from optus. Who's got time for that?

I'd suspect the idea of not broadcasting the boat arrivals is a strategy so that successes aren't advertised to people thinking of getting on a boat. Just my musings, I dont know, just getting my head around it
Why not do it the other way around, have an "opt on" instead?

I'd personally be more comfortable with that. I don't want to have to request my Internet be uncensored- it seems a violation. I have not requested my Internet be censored in any way. If I do not wish to look at certain material, I don't. I don't need anyone to filter out anything and I should not have to tell anyone that I don't want it filtered. It's no ones business what I look at online (within the law, of course)

Exactly. And does "wannawannabe wants the filter taken off" translate to "wannawannabe wants to view porn". And how do we know the filter actually gets removed?

What the hell... Is Abbott bringing in an Internet filter? What will it filter out? Is he getting the programming from the Chinese Government for cheap?

Yes! And though I don't particularly want to view pron, it's MY choice, yanno? Whether or not I want to view it is MY business. I resent the idea of having to let some govt agency know that I want to have the option of viewing it available to me.

Exactly. What then happens if this mysterious government agency that I've had to call up to get my filter removed, then decides to share this information with the government agency that employs me and the government agency that provides me with my health practitioner registration.....

Yes! It's private info. I wonder if they'd ask WHY you wanted no filtering?
